Young Again Non-prescription Food for Diabetic Cats

  1. I go on reading you should never give your diabetic kitties dry food again because they are high in carbs and don't contain water. What well-nigh the YA zero carb brand? Anyone have luck with feeding wet and some zero carb crunchies like YA? Both my kitties beloved crunchy food and are having a hard time having it taken away.

I am simply curious if information technology prophylactic to give this type of dry out to my diabetic kitty if I make sure he still gets plenty of wet food too.

  2. I think it depends on the cat. I've been using Young Once again as a "kibble option" for my diabetic cat for 8-ix months now with no problem-- my cat went into remission while eating it, and her electric current spot checks of blood glucose (half-dozen months later on) are mostly between 49-70 (haven't updated the spreadsheet with the spot checks in the concluding few months). I know other members have had like success with this nutrient.

That said, I accept heard some anecdotal reports of cats whose blood glucose seemed to elevate later on eating it, so there might exist some ECID going on here. In addition, using whatever kind of dry nutrient means you can't use the Tight Regulation protocol to try to get your cat into remission. It's certainly possible to become a true cat into remission using Commencement Low, Go Tedious, but TR is generally thought to provide the best take a chance.

If you desire to try it, call the company for a sample to see if Ozzy fifty-fifty likes it (it's waaaaay as well pricey not to exam that out showtime!). In my house, I have a two/iii rate of Immature Once more enjoyment-- Amber and ane of my ii civvies like it, the other one ate it a few times so completely lost involvement.

  3. I give my boys, both depression carb wet & keep young again out, as an option if they want to pick.
  4. My cat had it to eat all 24-hour interval in addition to pate wet twice a day. I credit information technology with getting my true cat into remission. They volition transport you a sample of you lot ask.
  5. Actually, cats... all cats, non only diabetic cats... accept a better gamble to be good for you overall when they are fed canned or a balanced homemade diet rather than dry food.

Read this to acquire about feline nutrition: Feeding Your Cat: Know the Nuts of Feline Diet.

  6. Thank you Jill. The article you linked was very helpful besides as the PDF constitute in the link. I am definitely going to stick with feeding moisture. After what my sweet Ozzy went through, I don't desire to fix him upwards for farther diabetes complications or other health problems from feeding dry. I know some others will desire to feed the zero carb food and that is perfectly fine and their decision, but my kitty is prone to ketones and just survived DKA then I recall it'southward best if nosotros keep him (and Figgie) on moisture food for the remainder of their hopefully long lives.

The more I am reading and learning about FD, the more than I am realizing how under-educated vets are on the appropriate feline diet. I initially talked to my vet nearly the possibility of Ozzy going into remission. I realize that he may never, merely if there is any chance, I wanted to know what would be the most likely way to practise this. vet My suggested the Hill's prescription foods which we have learned are VERY high in carbs. I have learned more than valuable information from this site than from my vet that I paid $5K to treat my DKA kitty.

I am interested in learning most some other higher quality wet foods instead of the lower quality FF, Friskies, and Sheba. Does anyone take a list of amend quality wet foods or even some advice on how to start on a raw diet? I would be interested in maybe doing a varied diet of the FF, Friskies, and Sheba along with some college quality wet foods, and everyone once in awhile raw food. Would this be recommended? I don't know if I could become in the groove to do all raw because information technology seems time consuming if you make your own and expensive if you by raw outright, but I would be able to do it a few times a week and supplement with both higher/lower quality wet foods. This would help my time and budget. And I'chiliad sure my barbarian Nordic Hubby would have no trouble grinding up meat and bones once a week- that would be a task right up his aisle! Hah!:woot:

  7. I don't think such a list exists. Withal, there are several folks in the Lantus & Levemir ISG who are very knowledgeable virtually good foods. You could ask over at that place.

My suggestions would include (in random club):

    Wellness Grain Free
    Turkey
    Chicken
    Beefiness & Chicken

    Wellness Core
    Beef, Venison, & Lamb Formula

    Evo 95% Craven & Turkey

    Cats Cuisine
    On the Cat Wok
    Paw Lickin' Craven with Gravy
    Steak Frites

    Cats in the Kitchen
    Chicken Frick a Zee
    Fowl Ball

    Tiki True cat
    Succulent Craven in Chicken Consomme

    Tiki Gourmet Carnivore
    Chicken with Turkey

    Raw True cat Food

    Feline's Pride

    Nature's Multifariousness Frozen Raw
    Rad Cat
    Darwin's

EZ Complete premix from Food Fur Life (add your own footing meat)
Alnutrin Supplements (add your own basis meat)

For years I followed Dr. Lisa's recipe for making raw food: Making True cat Food. I ordered the necessary supplements from iHerb.com and pre-ground whole prey from Hare Today Gone Tomorrow. The first couple of times took me forever, but as shortly every bit I adult a routine I could get 30 pounds made in virtually an 60 minutes... from beginning to finish and in the freezer. At the time I was feeding 4 cats. Making my ain raw nutrient this fashion was less expensive than feeding premium canned cat nutrient.

If you determine to feed raw, you might want to feed canned every once in awhile then your kitties don't "forget" that canned food is food, as well. I learned that the difficult way. Your thought to put raw food into rotation with canned food should exist fine unless kitty balks at ane or the other. If your hubby is willing to grind meat, good for him! Mine wouldn't if I paid him! LOL!

  8. LOL! Happy to help!
    Good luck!
  9. This is pretty impressive.:D

How did your kitty's take to raw food when first introduced? Did they pounce on it like information technology was their own live casualty like "OMG where has this been my whole life!!?" or were they hesitant at showtime and require some weaning in? What tips do you have for transitioning to raw?

  10. I call up I saw someone hither a while back feeding BFF cat nutrient. I've no idea of flavours & carb content simply might be worth checking out if it's not on the food list.

    Mogs
    .

  11. BFF is on 1 of the nutrient lists I saw. I accept given this to Fig and Ozzy in the by along with Tiki Cat (just the fish flavors because the other ones were really expensive). They liked both.
  12. My dry food aficionado took to raw similar a duck to water! I had spent well-nigh iv very long and difficult months transitioning him from dry to canned nutrient. I gave him the raw and he looked at me equally if to ask why I had been property out on him! Initially, the rest of them ate a fiddling raw and and then walked away. I ended upwards gradually calculation more raw to their canned food until they were eating all raw. The transition didn't take long at all.

Some caregivers transition a little differently. I'thousand a firm believer in finding what works for your true cat!

  13. Thanks, this is dandy feedback. Love that your carboholic loved the raw right away. I have 2 of those! Hope they have a similar reaction when we start this upwardly!
  14. My boys loved the YA zippo mature but my sugar kitty is so reactive to whatsoever food that information technology fabricated his numbers become upwardly. I got samples in the postal service and they emailed me a lot of links for info on all-time method of feeding and even the link to this forum. I haven't tried just feeding the YA because he would eat the whole purse in one sitting, oink oink. His numbers will go up from eating baked chicken breast besides. He'south ane of those that increases from only about everything but water. I have seen many people crediting YA for their cats remission. I looked into raw food and read for hours! By the time I was done I was so overwhelmed I decided confronting information technology. Wishing y'all the best of luck switching them over to raw!
  15. So I am a little annoyed with Darwin's website. They won't simply let me lodge what I want and keep insisting I effort their introductory lodge of x packages and with RECURRING ordering that I tin 'cancel' later if I remember. Large fat F from me. I just want to order 1-3 packages to see if my kitties even like it. I don't desire to be committed to 10 packages and an automobile ship with the hopes that I cancel the adjacent shipment if my cats don't like it if I 'remember'. Moving on to the side by side site...
  16. If you lot have a "specialty" pet food store around you, a lot of them volition have the frozen raw foods....I know RadCat comes in small tubs and Primal has a "sample pack" of 4 flavors.

I buy Red china'due south Natures Variety at a Gourmet Canis familiaris Biscuit bakery!

  17. Oh geezzz.... I don't know why it didn't occur to me that you lot could only go into a store and purchase raw! I have only been seeing links to online shipped frozen raw food. Deplorable, I'thou on serious info overload. My brain is frazzled.

    Thanks. :)

  19. Chris, does the Nature's Diverseness version yous buy China have veggies in it? I'thousand looking at the one at petsmart at present online and the ingredients take veggies in them. Which 1 exercise you buy?

Nature'south Variety® Instinct® Raw Bites Cat Food - Natural, Grain Free, Frozen Raw, Chicken
    Ingredients:
Chicken (Including Ground Chicken Bone), Turkey Eye, Turkey Liver, Turkey Bone, Yeast Culture, Pumpkin Seeds, Montmorillonite Clay, Apples, Broccoli, Butternut Squash, Salt, Cod Liver Oil, Dried Kelp, Carrots, Spinach, Taurine, Dried Chicory Root and Blueberries

  20. I buy the frozen raw medallions because China volition not eat the Raw Bites for some reason

Yes, there's a little bit of fruit and veggies but it's such a tiny corporeality, information technology doesn't effect her numbers.....it's 4% on the carb scale

  21. I have yet to see a cat cruising the produce aisle. I wish manufacturers wouldn't frell around with nutrient this way. :banghead:

I had a look at Darwin'due south nutrient for CKD cats the other day. They have dandelion (diuretic) and cranberry (acidifying) in the recipe, neither of which is skillful for CKD kitties. :banghead:

    Mogs
    .

  22. I hold Mogs.....If I could, I'd feed China RadCat...nothing but good stuff....but for some strange reason nobody could ever figure out, it spiked her numbers into the high 200's and 300'due south!!
  23. Young Once more Zero Carb was bully for ane of my cats and it put her into remission from diabetes a few months subsequently being diagnosed. Unfortunately, nosotros lost her to pancreatic cancer a little over a year later.

I put my other true cat on the Young Again at the same time every bit my diabetic cat (they were littermates), and it was goose egg but problem for her as she turned out to exist allergic to pork (the outset ingredient in Immature Again). All was well every bit long as she stayed out of her sister's bowl, but we had a flare upwardly of the allergies again when I bought Fortiflora to try to become my other cat to eat when she was losing weight from the cancer. Apparently, Fortiflora has pork ingredients, too.

I will never feed another cat of mine dry out food, ever.
